How to vote

Voting in the Town of Milton happens in person, with advance voting days before election day on .

What you need to know

Everything below is taken from what the Town of Milton Clerk has published, and was checked on 31 August 2026. It is repeated here as a convenience, not as an authority — the Town can change locations and hours, so confirm anything you are relying on at milton.ca/en/voter-information. Where something is still unconfirmed, it says so.

  1. Voter registration

    Being on the voters’ list is what lets you vote without extra steps.

    • To vote in a Milton municipal election you must be a Canadian citizen, and at least 18 years old, and a resident of Milton — or you or your spouse own or rent property in Milton, and not prohibited from voting under any law.
    • The Town opened its online check-and-update window for September 1 to 14, 2026. The Town directs residents to check or update their voter information online at milton.ca/VoterInfo.
    • The Town also states that updates can be made in person at a voting location with the required identification.

  2. Advance voting days

    Milton holds advance voting days before election day, so you do not have to vote on the day itself.

    • Advance voting runs October 12 to 15, 2026.
    • Monday, October 12 (Thanksgiving) — 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
    • Tuesday to Thursday, October 13 to 15 — 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
    • Locations: Nassagaweya Tennis Centre and Community Hall — 9267 Guelph Line; Sherwood Community Centre — 6355 Main St. W; Milton Leisure Centre — 1100 Main St. E; Beaty Branch Library — 945 Fourth Line; Milton Sports Centre — 605 Santa Maria Blvd..

  3. Election day

    Election day is Monday, October 26, 2026. Voting in Milton happens in person.

    • Voting is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
    • The Town states that voter notification cards were to be distributed in late September 2026.

    • Hugh Foster Hall
    • Holy Rosary Catholic Elementary School
    • John Tonelli Sports Centre Arena
    • Nassagaweya Tennis Centre and Community Hall
    • Nassagaweya Community Centre
    • Sherwood Community Centre

    Any of these is open to any Ward 1 elector on election day. Your voter notification card names the one closest to you.

  4. ID requirements

    You will be asked to show identification. What counts is set out in provincial regulation and administered by the Town.

    • Voters already on the list need one piece of identification showing their name and address. Photo ID is not required.
    • Examples the Town gives include an Ontario driver’s licence, an Ontario photo card, a cancelled personalised cheque and insurance documents.

  5. Accessibility of voting places

    Voting places and the voting process are meant to be usable by every eligible voter.

    • The Town publishes an election Accessibility Plan setting out, in its words, the steps it will take to identify, remove and prevent barriers to participation.

    If you need an arrangement

    • If you need a specific arrangement — an assistive device, help marking the ballot, or support getting into the building — contact the Clerk’s office before election day and ask. That is what it is there for.

  6. How to check the voters’ list

    The Town directs residents to check their voter information online, and voterlookup.ca is the province-wide service for the municipal voters’ list.

    • The Town’s own check-and-update window was September 1 to 14, 2026, at milton.ca/VoterInfo.
    • Property owners update school support designations separately, through MPAC’s online school support tool.

    If you are not on the list, or your record is wrong

    • If you are not on the voters’ list but you are an eligible elector, you can still vote. Bring the required identification to your voting place and you can be added or corrected there.

    You do not need to sort this out in advance. Bring identification and it can be handled at the voting place.
