The big idea

What if John Milton, after whom our Town is named, were alive today?

What if the great poet John Milton were living in Milton today and had decided to write another poetic masterpiece? Perhaps, instead of “Paradise Lost”, he might have been tempted to call it “Milton Lost” — because it feels like Milton has lost its way somewhere in the past several decades, lost between rapid growth, reactive decision-making and a municipal government struggling to keep pace with the community it serves.

The Town’s infrastructure feels like Windows 98 being compelled to run Windows 11. The issue is not growth itself. The issue is trying to manage 21st-century growth with a 20th-century planning approach.

Last time, Ward 1 did not get a vote for this seat

In 2022 the Ward 1 Regional Councillor seat was filled by acclamation. One candidate was nominated, so no election was held for it and not one ballot was cast. Across Milton that year, turnout was 28.99% of eligible voters.

A Regional Councillor elected in Ward 1 sits on Milton Town Council and on Halton Regional Council. It decides which of your questions this seat can actually answer.

Milton Town Council

Local roads, parks and recreation, fire, Milton Transit, permits and bylaws, and the Town’s own budget.

Halton Regional Council

Water and wastewater, regional roads, police, paramedics, public health, waste, and the regional budget.

Voting in Milton happens in person

To vote you must be:

  • a Canadian citizen, and
  • at least 18 years old, and
  • a resident of Milton — or you or your spouse own or rent property in Milton, and
  • not prohibited from voting under any law.
