The rules, before you send
Ontario sets the limits, not the campaign.
- You must be a resident of Ontario to contribute to a municipal campaign.
- Corporations and trade unions cannot contribute. This is an individuals-only campaign.
- The most one person may give this campaign is $1,200.
- The most one person may give in total to candidates for the same council is $5,000.
- Anything over $25 must be paid by a method that shows where the money came from — cheque, money order, or an electronic transfer. Only $25 or less may be given in cash.
- Every contribution gets a receipt showing who gave it, the date and the amount.
- A municipal campaign contribution is not tax deductible. The receipt is not a tax receipt.
